An Extraordinary Saturday: At the Salon
Everyone says to make sure you get a full night’s sleep before you get married. Well, I had a really hard time sleeping the night before the wedding. I had that kid-before-Christmas feeling, so when I woke up after four hours of sleep… that was it for me.

The other thing people told me was to EAT. Katie and Chloe were taking care of me – while I was delivering centerpieces to the Barn, they picked up coffee and bagels for everyone.

My mom and I go to the same stylist, although I knew her first. I was early for my appointment, my mom was still in the chair. While I waited, I recognized a familiar face. My first boyfriend’s mom was there, looking exactly the same as she did thirteen years ago. When I told her I was marrying DJ (today!) her face lit up. Oh, that’s wonderful! Congratulations, tell DJ’s mom hi for me!

After my mom was prettied up, Maria started on me. I started on my coffee. Nervous.

It’s hard to stay nervous when you look like a lost member of A Flock of Seagulls.

Ooh, now I look like Elvis! This was actually not a bad look for me.

Meanwhile, one of the salon owners made 1940’s curls and twists in Katie’s hair.

Melissa had her hair curled and pinned up with a few tendrils. Chloe has a couple of chunky blonde highlights, which her stylist wove into Grecian loops. It was a really cool way to use her natural texture and Chloe-style for a more formal look – and it was still very Chloe.

Once all the bobby pins were in place, Maria slid my feather fascinator into place. I was about half an hour behind schedule, but trying to maintain my Flock of Seagulls calm.

Unmarked photos from my camera; marked photos from the most patient photographer in the world, Kim from Bow Tie Photography.

Not to be extraordinarily trivial here, and forget all about the significance of the moment, but, um, you have great eyebrows. Can I borrow them?
Sure, LPC. Actually, every few weeks I have a lot of extra eyebrow, you can have that to keep.
I love what you call the Flock of Seagulls look. Your hair looks lovely, unsurprisingly.
You left a comment on my blog a couple weeks ago but I’ve actually had http://eventualwedding.blogspot.com/ in my reader for quite sometime {you guys reminded me of my husband & I}. HI!!
Scrolling through this post, especially past the coffee & Seagulls pics, it struck me how beautiful you are.
I hoped it wouldn’t sound weird {which it totally does!} but thought I’d share anyway. Congrats on the wedding!
it was so hard to sleep the night before! and i woke up so early, too. i like that you posted photos of the hair process, it’s always hair raising before it’s perfect. and your hair looked perfect!
